The Digital Health Agency has launched the National Health Information Exchange (HIE), a groundbreaking shared service that centralises and harmonises patient records across all levels of care, making data portability a reality.
The HIE facilitates the creation of encrypted digital patient records, which healthcare providers—both public and private—can access with patient authorisation and consent. This will enable faster diagnoses, smoother referrals, and more precise treatments, all while adhering to data protection laws.
As part of the Universal Health Coverage digitisation program, the HIE signifies a key milestone in Kenya’s digital healthcare transformation.
