Nigeria’s Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Zipline distribution center in Yenagoa. Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, joined him for this significant event. This strategic move aims to enhance medical deliveries across Nigeria.
According to an official Zipline release, this development is a significant step towards more effective healthcare infrastructure. It aims to be self-reliant and resilient. This is necessary amid global aid funding disruptions that threaten access to life-saving healthcare services in Nigeria and beyond.
The new distribution center will leverage advanced warehousing, cold storage, and inventory management systems to facilitate rapid, on-demand medical deliveries. “From this hub, Zipline will serve hundreds of health facilities. It will also serve community delivery sites. The coverage area is 38,000 sq km. It ensures routine access to essential medical supplies. This service extends even to the most remote parts of Bayelsa,” the release stated.
Since beginning operations in Bayelsa in 2023, Zipline has delivered over one million vaccine doses. They have also distributed more than 71,000 units of essential medicines. The company has also led multiple high-impact vaccination and health campaigns. They have distributed hundreds of thousands of supplements and tablets to residents across the state.
“These developments are more than just infrastructure. They represent our shared commitment to delivering quality healthcare to Nigerians, no matter their location,” stated Ali Pate. “The integration of Zipline’s drone flight services marks a bold step towards innovative healthcare delivery.”
Akin Oyediran, Partnerships Executive for Zipline Nigeria, added, “As Nigeria prioritises community empowerment, Zipline remains dedicated. They collaborate with the government. Zipline is also committed to working with local stakeholders. This partnership aims to integrate our technology seamlessly and strengthen health systems nationwide.”
