Dawa Mkononi, a B2B pharmaceutical firm based in Tanzania, focused on using innovation to improve the supply chain has received funding to further its goal of increasing healthcare access throughout East Africa. Dawa Mkononi’s operations mainly target pharmacies, health facilities, and other registered B2B clients. With its data-driven approaches, they  have a mission of improving access to medicine distribution and making medicines more available to health facilities.

The company’s financial backer’s include the Sanofi Global Health Unit Impact Fund, Pontem Ventures, Warioba Ventures, Villgro Africa, Axian Group, and several regional venture capitalists. The funding will advance the company’s mission to provide universal access to necessary medications.

CEO and co-founder Joseph Paul says the investors’ support underlines their conviction in the company’s vision and will be crucial in expanding its footprint and enhancing healthcare access across Tanzania.

Dawa Mkononi, translating to “Medicine at your Palms,” addresses the pharmaceutical supply chain directly. Its mobile application enables pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals to efficiently order medicines, while fintech features provide a seamless payment system.

The method not only conserves resources but also thwarts price volatility and counterfeit drugs.

Already servicing over 1,000 healthcare enterprises in Dar es Salaam alone, the company’s influence reaches beyond large cities. The recent financial support will enable them to extend their reach to distant areas, ensuring that crucial medications are accessible to all.

Dawa Mkononi exemplifies how technology can fill healthcare voids and ensure universal access to vital medical supplies.
