Accessing healthcare while battling illness can be challenging, especially for those in remote areas. Nevertheless, this soon be a thing of the past, thanks to PatientCare, a revolutionary telemedicine platform created by computer scientist Jessé Liula Schiceya. Showcased at the eighth Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Summit in Windhoek, PatientCare aims to transform healthcare delivery in Africa by enabling patients to get treatment from the comfort of their homes.
“PatientCare integrates telemedicine, AI, and fintech to improve healthcare accessibility and affordability across Africa,” Schiceya said. The platform offers services including online consultations, medication delivery, lab test bookings, and comprehensive healthcare coverage, making it a versatile solution for patients and healthcare providers alike.
The platform connects patients with doctors, pharmacies, and laboratories, with plans to expand its services to include pregnancy care and ambulance services. PatientCare‘s mission is to bring affordable, high-quality healthcare to underserved populations in Namibia, South Africa, and Nigeria, utilizing advanced technology to break down barriers to healthcare access, particularly in rural and urban areas.
Schiceya highlighted the platform’s user-friendly app, which provides telemedicine consultations for just N$100 per session. Users can also access their digital health records, book appointments, and get AI-driven healthcare support focused on mental health. The app even extends healthcare coverage to the uninsured through an innovative financial model.
For healthcare professionals, PatientCare offers tools to manage appointments, digitally access patient information, and potentially earn up to N$60,000 per month through the platform. The app also promotes public health with services for managing lifestyle diseases, cancer support, psychosocial care, and remote wellness monitoring programs.
Since its beta launch on 7 June 2023 in Namibia, PatientCare has connected patients with nearly 200 doctors. “The platform is crucial for patients who can’t visit hospitals or clinics due to their conditions. It allows them to easily consult a doctor and have their medication delivered,” Schiceya explained.
Available on Android and iOS, the app is built on a secure, scalable technology infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration with healthcare providers, pharmacies, and insurance partners. PatientCare is poised to be a game-changer in healthcare, offering a lifeline to those who need it most.
