Addis Ababa, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) — Ethiopia is hosting the first African Conference on the Community Health Information System (CHIS). Representatives from 19 countries and organizations involved in healthcare technology are participating.
Ethiopia’s State Minister of Health, Ayele Teshome, highlighted the impact of digitalizing the healthcare sector, noting its contribution to enhancing service delivery at all levels. Teshome shared that digital health services have been extended to over 25 million families in rural areas. Efforts are underway to further improve system efficiency.
Teshome expressed gratitude to CommCare software founder and CEO, Jonathan Jackson. He also thanked other partners for their role in organizing the event. Jackson emphasized that the technology will foster international collaboration and improve access to quality healthcare.
Gemechis Melkamu is the Chief Executive of Digital Health at the Health Ministry. He discussed the transformative impact of CommCare software. He stated that it has revolutionized how technology is used to enhance healthcare performance in Ethiopia.
The Community Health Information System (CHIS) is an integrated, patient-focused platform. It is web-based. It aids stakeholders in effectively managing healthcare services across the country.
