DemyHealth, a leader in healthcare technology, has expanded its molecular laboratory capabilities. They introduced a 16-channel genetic sequencer. This marks a substantial step forward in Nigeria’s molecular diagnostics and precision medicine sectors.

Dr. Emeka Obiodunukwe, CEO of DemyHealth, highlighted the significance of this advancement. It enables the company to broaden its molecular testing services. “The technology will revolutionize infectious disease testing. It will allow sequencing for culture-negative samples. It will help close the testing gap in Nigeria and West Africa,” he stated. Dr. Obiodunukwe emphasized that this sequencing platform will enable the diagnosis of various genetic disorders, cancers, and will provide companion diagnostics.

DemyHealth has introduced new sequencing technology. They have launched a DNA sequencing facility at their headquarters in Abuja. Additionally, they opened two more offices in Lagos. These new offerings will enhance testing capacity. They enable the simultaneous analysis of 192 paternity samples. Turnaround times for paternity and sequencing tests are reduced to just three days. The company’s open sequencing platform, suited for research and targeted sequencing, includes advanced software for precise data interpretation, improving accuracy and speed in test results.

Dr. Obiodunukwe further commented on this technology. It addresses the growing demand for genomic and sequencing services across Nigeria’s healthcare and life sciences sectors. He noted, “This will support scientific education and innovation in Nigeria and across sub-Saharan Africa. It will equip researchers with essential tools. These tools will help them make significant contributions on a global scale.”

Since its inception, DemyHealth has processed over 50,000 molecular samples and established more than 60 molecular labs across Nigeria. Dr. Obiodunukwe recalled that DemyHealth was among the first centers in the country to install Automated Nucleic Acid Extractors in 2018. This installation significantly reduced turnaround times for viral load testing of HBV, HCV, HPV DNA, and HIV.

Casmir Ali, head of DemyHealth’s molecular lab department, cited the company’s competitive advantages in expertise, technology, customer satisfaction, and pricing. These factors position DemyHealth’s DNA and paternity testing services on par with renowned labs like DDC USA and AlphaBiolabs UK.

Dr. Tony Mpkolulu, a diagnostic radiologist at Lake Medical Imaging in the U.S., praised the initiative. He affirmed that it will help close gaps in Nigeria’s medical research and diagnostics landscape. This advancement will enhance both healthcare accessibility and technological innovation.
