They create a foundation for resilient, equitable health systems. These systems can address Africa’s unique challenges while contributing to global health improvements.

Prof. Isabella Quakyi, a public health specialist from the University of Ghana, highlighted collaboration’s crucial role in building resilient healthcare systems. She spoke at the 2nd annual Africa Health Collaborative event. The event was organized in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation in Kumasi. Speaking at the opening ceremony, she emphasised that partnerships among governments and communities are crucial. Collaboration with healthcare providers and international stakeholders is also key to strengthening Africa’s healthcare infrastructure

Efforts like these are essential for building robust health infrastructures. They must address both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Furthermore, enhancing digital health systems and investing in emergency preparedness is crucial

African healthcare is on the brink of a transformative future. Initiatives such as the Africa Health Collaborative are leading the way. This future is shaped by the collective action of diverse stakeholders.

“The future of Africa’s healthcare will be shaped by collaborations,” Prof. Quakyi said. “Together, we can create equitable health systems that not only serve Africa but contribute to global health advancement.”

The Africa Health Collaborative’s annual convening brings together diverse stakeholders to tackle common healthcare challenges through collective effort.

The 2024 event is hosted by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. It runs under the theme “Nyansapo: Innovating Health Systems in Africa for Africa and the World.”

Prof. Quakyi highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness. This is crucial for securing Africa’s healthcare future. She called for investments in digital health platforms and data management. These steps will ensure resilience against future pandemics.

KNUST’s Prof. Ellis Owusu-Dabo and the Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, also emphasised leadership, innovation, and tackling emerging diseases, particularly non-communicable diseases. Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, encouraged openness to fresh perspectives to enhance the efforts of the Collaborative.

Through this event, the Collaborative continues to push for innovation and collaboration in Africa’s healthcare sector.
