Africa : ORTEC’s Corridor Medical Transfer System Wins Computerworld Award

In 2012, 218,762 people visited North Star clinics to receive counselling  testing, and treatment, all registered with a passport system developed by ORTEC. ORTEC’s Corridor Medical Transfer System COMETS system facilitates the collection of site-specific health and demographic data. COMETS innovation – it is the first medical patient system in Africa where individual patient files can be accessed at different locations regardless of national borders.

ORTEC was the 2012 recipient of the Franz Edelman Award for operations research excellence, optimizing supply chain operations for TNT Express and saving the company more than $265 million over a three year period. The Edelman Award is considered the highest honor in the field of operations research, the discipline of applying analytical methods to help make better business decisions. ORTEC has won numerous other awards and was just named a finalist for the GBCHealth Business Action on Health Award for its work on behalf of North Star Alliance. The Computerworld Honors Program awards will be presented at the Gala Awards Ceremony on June 3, 2013 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
